A Strange & Winding Road: Day 42

Eep: Morning. Nothing good has ever come of it. I could sleep for three more weeks.

Mouse (to Eep): Good morning. I've got coffee brewing and an omelet in the oven.

Eep (to Mouse): Mmmm. Sounds good. Been up long?

Mouse (to Eep): A couple hours, I woke up abruptly and couldn't get back to sleep. So, I worked out for an hour. I'm happy to be home, though. How are you feeling? I thought you were going to sleep for days.

Eep (to Mouse): Yeah. Sorry. I think I was exhausted. I get kinda paranoid when we're in Bizarro Land.

Mouse (to Eep): Well, that's understandable. We don't seem to ever go there under the best of circumstances.

Eep (to Mouse): Yeah. Not really. Umm... How are you doing? Did you sleep alright? I mean, did you have any nightmares?

Mouse (to Eep): No, no nightmares, but I did have a weird dream. I don't remember much of it, only pieces and those are actually fading, too. But, I slept okay until I woke up... I would have liked to stay in bed longer but I didn't want to disturb you.

Eep (to Mouse): You could have stayed. Heh. I don't think a nuclear blast would have woken me up this morning.

Mouse (to Eep): Heh... Well, how do you feel about eating our breakfast and then returning to bed?

Eep (to Mouse): That sounds like the best idea I've heard all morning.

Several hours later:

Percy (to Poppy): Hi honey, how are you & the little man doing today?

Poppy (to Percy): Just fine, Percy. I was sick of being cooped up in that room so, we're going for a little walk around the monastery. Have you seen Vincent today? He was up and out of room before I woke up this morning.

Percy (to Poppy): I think he went off on a run, honey. He should be back soon.

Poppy (to Percy): Well, that's surprising... What aren't you telling me, honey?

Percy (to Poppy): I'm sorry honey. I was asked not to tell you that Vincent went to New London to find out about the man at Maladori's.

Poppy (to Percy): What!?! He didn't go alone, did he?

Percy (to Poppy): I believe he did, honey... He had asked me to stay here & keep an eye on you and Victor.

Poppy (to Percy): Oooo... I have no words... (to Vincent) Honey, are you alright? Percy tells me you went off to find out about the man that visited Maladori's lab.

Vincent (to Poppy): He did? That blabber mouth! I'm alright, lover. I'm about 10 minutes away from the Monastery, so you'll see me shortly.

Poppy (to Vincent): I'm glad he did... I was worried about you.

Vincent (to Poppy): I'm sorry, hun. I was trying NOT to cause you any undue concern.

Poppy (to Vincent): When you get here, come find me, honey, I want to talk to you.

Vincent (to Poppy): Uh oh. I'm in trouble, aren't I? I'm landing now. I'll see you in a few.

Poppy (to Vincent): Quite possibly... Wear some comfy clothes & bring your sword, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh dear...

A short time later:

Vincent (to Poppy): Now, hun, remember that if you slaughter me that you'll be a single mother...

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, I'm not going to slaughter you. I need a workout. I've got Victor fed & ready to sleep, so we have a couple hours.

Vincent (to Poppy): You... You what? B-but... You just gave birth! Not less than a week ago.

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, I know. I was there, honey. Worried that I'll embarrass you?

Vincent (to Poppy): Always. I'm just more than a bit shocked, hun. You just pushed a tiny human out of your body. It looked quite exhausting. If you're sure, you know I can't deny you anything you ask, lover.

Poppy (to Vincent): Of course, I'm sure, honey, I need to get back in shape. Plus, I think it's time I showed you a few tricks.

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. There are already plenty who would argue I'm all tricks and no talent, hun. En garde!

Poppy (to Vincent): And, I know the truth, honey... Your thrust is sloppy & you drop your shoulder before you lunge.

Vincent (to Poppy): Ooh, you cut me deep. Yikes, very nearly literally! I thought you said you weren't going to slaughter me. Watch it there, beautiful lady! You're going to take my head off. And then you'll be a widow. What would the neighbors say? Not even married a year, and already murdering your husband in a sword fight. The shame!

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, you have a sharp tongue and fast feet, at some point you're going to need to actually swing the sword at me and not just parry & defend. How am I supposed to show you things if you play it so close to the vest?

Vincent (to Poppy): Call me overly romantic, but I'd really rather avoid swinging a sword at the woman I love. Currently, my strategy is to annoy you with chatter until you surrender. :-P Eek! Though, this may not be the best idea I've ever had.

Poppy (to Vincent): I love you, honey but you have been extremely lucky that you've never gone up against a real swordsman. You have a family now and you can't be as reckless as you once were, honey. I won't be made a widow.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oof. Uncle. UNCLE! I think you've more than won this round, lover.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heh... Not at all, honey. Hmmm, I should try something else to get your attention, I suppose... How about this?

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh! Well... That certainly works for me. Heh. And you're right, lover. I need to bone up on my swordsmanship. I am woefully under-educated, I'm afraid.

Poppy (to Vincent): If you won't let me show you how, honey, then we need to find you a teacher.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Sorry, sweetie. I have a hard time disconnecting how I feel about you. Any suggestions?

Poppy (to Vincent): I know someone. I think you'll like him. His name is Lionel Farinelli. He's nicknamed the Dancemaster.

Vincent (to Poppy): The Dancemaster? Well, that certainly DOES sound intriguing. Hee hee. Don't make that face, hun. I'm just kidding. ESPECIALLY don't make that face while brandishing a sword.

Poppy (to Vincent):  I'll put down the sword, if you give me a hug and tell me what you found out while you were out & about without me.

Vincent (to Poppy): That sounds like a good deal to me, lover. I was able to find out a whole lot of jack and squat. I still have no idea who Edmund MacKenzie is, or what his connection to Hiiri could be. I'm afraid I spent today answering more questions than I spent getting them answered.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, I'll contact ISS now that I'm back on my feet & see what they can find out.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Sounds good, hun. Sorry I wasn't of much help. Why ever do you endure me? Must be the body.
