A Strange & Winding Road: Day 31

Vincent (to Poppy): Hello, lover. How are you and the passenger doing? What can I do for you?

Poppy (to Vincent): Get this child out of me, honey... I am so done with this. I can't seem to find a comfortable place on this airship. Blast it! And our passenger is making me nervous.

Vincent (to Poppy): I wish there was something more I could do for you, hun. I can bring you more pillows and a cool drink. Why is Victor making you nervous? Are you feeling alright?

Poppy (to Vincent): He's been a bit quiet today... too quiet. He's probably going to keep me up all night, I can tell. I'm sorry to be so snippy, honey. I'm just hot, tired and I feel like a sweaty elephant.

Vincent (to Poppy): Don't stress yourself, hun. I understand. I wish there was something more I could do for you.

Poppy (to Vincent): Thank you, lover... I know you do & I appreciate it. How are you? Are we almost ready for the excursion to Australia?

Vincent (to Poppy): We should be. A few more jumps, and we'll be there. Heh. Believe it or not, I needed to break out my heavy coat. It's just above freezing where we're headed. I think I may get weather whiplash.

Poppy (to Vincent): Some cold weather would be a blessing for me at this point. I shall endeavor to never be pregnant in the summer ever again. Or possibly at all... I hope one child is enough for you. Because if it isn't, you're just going to have to find someone else.

Vincent (to Poppy): Someone else? Good heavens! Who else could hold my attention? And who else would put up with me? ;-P Heh. Hun, at this point, the prospect of one is more than enough to terrify me. Besides, can you imagine having more than one kid able to open up portals willy nilly? It's bad enough Victor keeps getting Persephone involved. Though, I get the impression most times it's more like the reverse.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heehee, she clearly inherited the Longfellow family curse of finding trouble. At least, she has Molly to keep her grounded. I can only imagine what she would have turned out like if we hadn't stopped Hiiri... She'd have been terrible, I'm sure… And, don't even think for an instant I didn't notice you flirting with that handsome gentleman at the docks. Talk about getting into to trouble... Not even married a month. :-P

Vincent (to Poppy): I was NOT flirting! OK, maybe just a little. Around the edges. But it was purely work related! It never hurts to be friends with dock workers, hun.

Poppy (to Vincent): I know, honey... I just wanted you to know that I noticed. :-P

Vincent (to Poppy): Don't I know it? You notice everything. Poor Victor will never be able to get away with anything. Which is probably a good thing, as he'll have a double helping of "trouble-maker" genes. Maybe we'll luck out and he'll rebel by becoming boring and rational.

Poppy (to Vincent): We can only hope... Though after his excursion to the past, I wouldn't count on it. So, I have a strange question, honey... Why do you think we named him Victor Harrison? I mean, I've always liked the name Victor ever since I read Frankenstein. But, Harrison? Is it a family name?

Vincent (to Poppy): Good God, NO. I wouldn't saddle my child with any of the horrible names from my family. I, um, I think I know where I would get the suggestion for name Harrison.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh, good... Why do I get the impression you don't want to tell me?

Vincent (to Poppy): Because it's too embarrassing for words. Do you remember when you first started staying with me, it was after you learned Percy died, we watched Star Wars together?

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, that's like your favorite sci-fi trilogy in the whole entire world, honey. How could I forget... Oh, honey... the actor who played Han Solo was named Harrison, wasn't he?

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Sorry, hun. That middle name is my fault entirely. Star Wars was my escape when I was younger. It was one of the few movies my parents didn't object to me watching. I never get sick of watching it, and watching it with you, who had never seen it before... Well, I love that memory.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, I guess I should be grateful you didn't insist on Han... or Kenobi. And, when you put it like that, honey, I don't mind the name at all.

Vincent (to Poppy): And then you said I reminded you of Han Solo! Good gracious, if you only KNEW what you had done to me that night.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, you did remind me of Han Solo... and you still do. Only I think I like you much better.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh. Good heavens! Hee hee. And you said *I* have the silver tongue.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heehee... I kind of wish we could curl up & watch those movies right now, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): Me too. Let's get what Klaude needs and get back home, hun. We can take a break until Mr. Victor Harrison arrives.

Poppy (to Vincent): Aye aye, Captain.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh heh. You know it makes me weak in the knees when you call me captain, hun. I'm beginning to think you do it on purpose.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heehee, maybe a little. I'll stop doing it if you want me to, mon amour.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Je peux jouer à ce jeu aussi, ma chérie. Je ne peux pas vous dire d'arrêter. J'aime vous entendre m'appeler capitaine.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh honey, if you keep that up... We're going to have a lot of trouble getting anywhere on time. I'm going to leave you to it, Captain. Give a holler if you need anything.

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. Je m'excuse. Go lay down, lover. I should be fine.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh, I almost forgot to ask... Have you seen Max anywhere? He wasn't laying in his usual spot.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh! No, I haven't. Open a can of tuna. That should flush him out.

Poppy (to Vincent): Good idea, lover. I will do just that.

A little while later:

Vincent (to Poppy): Any luck finding the missing cat, hun?

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, thank goodness. I'm not sure where he was hiding, but he came out immediately for the tuna... I'm not sure why I didn't think of that... Maybe, Victor is using up some of my braincells. Quick take advantage while I'm stupid.

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee hee. You? In a weakened state? Somehow I doubt that, lover. :-P

Poppy (to Vincent): I'm sure if you asked Margaux or the Colonel, they could tell you all about my failings, lover.

Vincent (to Poppy): We're coming up on the last jump point now. We should be in New South Wales shortly.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oooo, it's getting cold in here. I need to see if I can find a coat that will fit me. Otherwise, I'm wrapping myself up with blankets.

Vincent (to Poppy): Here's another blanket, the cat and the hot water bottle. Keep yourself warm, hun. I'll be right back.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heh... You're a good husband.

Vincent (to Poppy): I try. After all, I've got plenty of my own shortcomings. Together, we make one almost fully functional person! ;-} I'll be back before you can miss me.

Poppy (to Vincent): Alright, be careful, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): Of course, hun. Max, keep an eye on the missus & junior while I'm out and about. Je t'aime, ma chérie. Je te verrai bientôt.

A couple hours later:

Vincent (to Poppy): I'm back, lover! Did you miss me? Yes? Excellent! I've got the cargo. We should go! Shame we can't take in the scenery.

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey... Why are you in such a hurry? What did you do?

Vincent (to Poppy): Me? What possible trouble could I get into by going to a settlement seemingly populated with nothing but former convicts?

Poppy (to Vincent): Do you really want me to answer that? Help me up, honey...

Vincent (to Poppy): Upsadaisey! I'm not saying I DID anything, mind you, but some of the population of Botany Bay may not have the most enlightened views on alternative sexualities or aboriginal equality. And... well... You know me and my mouth, hun.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh honey... I really can't take you anywhere. You get the ship ready for take off & I'll be right back.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. I know, hun. I'm sorry. I, uh, may have also said some less than complimentary things about the Queen Mum.

Poppy (to Vincent): Give me your coat, honey... I'll just go and have a word with them.

Vincent (to Poppy): WHAT?! Have you gone absolutely mad, woman? I'm not sending you out there to face that mob!

Poppy (to Vincent): You're not sending me... I'm going on my own. I'll take care of it.

Vincent (to Poppy): Or we could just leave. This is an option, you know. An option that doesn't end in you getting shot, I might add!

Poppy (to Vincent): Do you really want to have to remove Australia from our atlas, honey? I mean, we're running out places we can go... At this rate, we'll only be able to travel to Antartica or possibly the moon.

Vincent (to Poppy): I don't see what the big deal is. There's still tw--er--one, very nearly one and a half continents we can visit. Oh OK, FINE. But I'm going with you.

Poppy (to Vincent): NO... You stay here & get the ship ready. No sense in reminding them of your existence, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): But, but I... You... I... Guuuuuuh! There's no arguing with you when you have that face on! Don't you DARE get murdered or hurt! I will be SO cross with you!

Poppy (to Vincent): I promise, honey...

Twenty minutes later:

Poppy (to Vincent): Alright, honey, fences mended. They've shut down the anti-airship cannons. We can leave safely now. And, look, not a scratch on me.

Vincent (to Poppy): ... You're alright? You're really alright? Oh sweet baby Jesus! You amazing, infuriating, amazing, incredible woman! I think I aged 15 years just now.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, you still look handsome to me, old man... Oh, does that mean you can be my sugar daddy, honey?

Vincent (to Poppy): Hush you! Stop with your saucy repartee and give me a hug. That was the longest 10 minutes of my life!

Poppy (to Vincent): I'm sorry to freak you out, honey. I remembered reading about the cannons in the ISS files... If we took off earlier, we'd be dead.

Vincent (to Poppy): No, you were right, lover. I really need to learn to control that bloody tongue of mine. Where would I be without you? Oh, right. Dead in a ditch somewhere. :-P

Poppy (to Vincent): More than likely. :-P

Vincent (to Poppy): I don't doubt if for a moment, hun. Shall we get the hell out of here?

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, please honey... Woo, I think I need to sit down. Is it cold in here? Yes, I think it is.

Vincent (to Poppy): It is a bit, hun. Are you feeling alright? You look a bit pale.

Poppy (to Vincent): Just the adrenaline wearing off, honey... I'm just going to curl up in the bed.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh good heavens, of course! Go lay down. I'm going to get us safely in the air. I'll join you as soon as I can.

Poppy (to Vincent): Thank you, my husband. I love you.

Vincent (to Poppy): I love you too, Poppy. I'll see you in a few, hun.
