A Strange & Winding Road: Day 8

Poppy: Dear God... I feel awful... Why am I awake? Why do I want a spinach salad?

Vincent (to Poppy): Hey, hun. Are you OK? It sounds like you're throwing... Ah. That's because you are. What do you need?

Poppy (to Vincent): I want to die...

Vincent (to Poppy): Sorry, lover, but I'm not going to be murdering you any time soon. How about I get you some juice instead?

Poppy (to Vincent): Dear god, honey, no juice... just water or some chamomile tea, please. I think I'm just going to lay on the floor for a bit.

Vincent (to Poppy): Here you go, hun. I managed to scrounge up some tea for you. How are you doing? Still poorly?

Poppy (to Vincent): Thank you, honey... I think my body just caught up with itself... I mean, I had been feeling a bit nauseous before, but this is ridiculous. I feel terrible & starving at the same time.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh, lover, I'm so sorry. I believe the nausea should pass stop soon, and then in a few months you won't have it at all. That's good news, right?

Poppy (to Vincent): Months? Oh god, I don't know if I can deal with this for months...

Vincent (to Poppy): Awwwww, hun. According to what I read, the morning sickness lasts for 12-14 weeks. Um, usually.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, Victor & I are going to have a little talk... I can't be having with this... Oh god, I sound like Molly... I'm going to be thought of as a mom from now on...

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. And I'm going to be a father. How terrifying a thought is that? Speaking of Molly, I think she knows. Hmmm. And she gave me quite A Look when I asked her for a cup of tea.

Poppy (to Vincent): What do you mean she knows? How can she know? I mean, I realize that I just spent the last 5 hours retching, honey, but it could be food poisoning or a stomach flu or... oh god... I need to stop talking about that stuff.

Vincent (to Poppy): I don't know, hun. Maybe I looked guilty and she's trying to get me to confess to whatever it is. I tell you. I have faced some nasty, scary people, and she intimidates me like no one else.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heh... That's because she grew up in this inn, honey, and she's been running it on her own since her parents retired and moved to the country. It takes nerve to do something like that, plus to put up with Bernard... He can be such a surly bastard.

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. That's for damn sure. Was Dr. Thorne have able to give you any news about Victor yesterday?

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, she said that I should not be doing any more trips through the portal as it may interfere with the gestation period... It might make it shorter or longer & she doesn't know what the strain would do to me in either case, but other than that we're both healthy and he's due the first or second week of July... and, I want to go and visit the monastery, Tesla is the only person that I know who knows about the portals & crossing over for than anyone else in the empire. I just want him to run a couple tests.

Vincent (to Poppy): That's not a bad idea, hun. Aside from a handful of people, Tesla is the only one who knows we're both portal jumpers, and... Wait. July? You're due in July? Oh good heavens...

Poppy (to Vincent): Yeah, apparently the portals sped up things just a little bit. Well, July here in Britannia, that's a few more months away. But, it looks like Victor is going to have to be born here.

Vincent (to Poppy): Looks like. Wow. This is... Hee. This is something, isn't it? So, do you think Bernard and Molly will mind having us for a few months? At least until Victor is born.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heh... I think we might want to find somewhere else to stay, honey... I don't want to encroach on them, too much. Besides, they could use the room for an actual paying customer... We could see about making the Falcon more roomy, maybe. At least some more comfortable bunks.

Vincent (to Poppy): Well, I can certainly change the bunks, hun. Are you sure you don't mind living on an airship for a couple of months? It's not exactly "high living," and it can be dodgy sometimes. I mean, you're going to be pregnant, and the ship rocks...

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, but you're going to want to do runs while we're here & how else am I going to keep an eye on you, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. Well, that is true. I mean, we're going to need SO MUCH baby stuff, hun, so we're going to need coin. And you know I can't be trusted on my own. ;-}

Poppy (to Vincent): And, I'm pregnant not ill... I can still do things. You can't expect me to sit around knitting booties… And, I might know where we can get some baby stuff, but that means going to the old house in the Tombs... You up for that?

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. I wonder if I can get Eep to knit us some booties. They would be the ANGRIEST baby booties ever! I don't mind making the trip. Is this some of your old baby stuff, lover?

Poppy (to Vincent): Yeah, I think there should be an attic full of stuff... I don't know in what kind of shape it's in, but some of it must be usable, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh! Good heavens, it must be teenie, tiny and adorable. Hee.

Poppy (to Vincent): There's also stuff from my brothers... I mean there were seven of them, so there's a lot of hand me downs.

Vincent (to Poppy): No doubt. Though, after going through seven boys, I wonder if any of it is salvageable.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, that's what we're going to find out, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): How are you feeling, hun? Do you want to head out today?

Poppy (to Vincent): I'm feeling a bit better... can you help me up off the floor? I seem to be a little uncoordinated.

Vincent (to Poppy): Of course, hun. Up we go.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heehee, thank you... Let's go, before Molly gets a hold of us & puts us to work.

Vincent (to Poppy): Yes. We should definitely go. And that's definitely why I'm letting you go. Yep. This is me. Letting you go...

Poppy (to Vincent): Heehee, or we could just climb back into bed...

Vincent (to Poppy): Mmm. That IS a tempting counter offer. Hee hee. Of course, then Molly will know where to find us. How are you doing, hun? Everyone has been asking me if I'm freaking out about this whole pregnancy thing, but how about you? How are you doing?

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh... ummm, I'm fine, honey... I mean, I think I had my freakout before & now I'm actually a little relieved. I was worried that I was going crazy or that there was something seriously wrong with me... and I love you, so the idea of having a kid with you is kind of exciting though a bit terrifying too... I didn't think I would. I honestly thought I would be a spinster...

Vincent (to Poppy): Well hun, if you ended up as a spinster, it wouldn't be for a lack of a lot of trying on behalf of the male population.

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, until I met you, there wasn't a single member of the male population that held any interest for me.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh. Heh. Well, I am a very special snowflake.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heehee, yes you are...

Vincent (to Poppy): Mmmm. You are making leaving sound like a worse and worse idea, lover. Shall we get moving?

Poppy (to Vincent): We should, honey...

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Let's get going then.

Several hours later:

Percy (to Poppy & Vincent): Hey sweeties, what brings you to the monastery? I've been here getting patched up by Tesla.

Poppy (to Percy): I needed to talk to Tesla, honey. (to Vincent) I'll be back shortly, lover.

Vincent (to Poppy): OK. Let me know if you need me, sweetie. (to Percy) Hey, how's your arm doing, hun?

Percy (to Vincent): It's good now, I'm back to perfection, honey.

Vincent (to Percy): Well, I'm glad you're back up to snuff, Percy. And in case I didn't say it earlier, thank you for your help with Drake.

Percy (to Vincent): You are welcome, honey. I mean how could I say no to helping that sexy body of yours from getting hurt. ;-)

Vincent (to Percy): Oh. Ah, right. Well, thank you. Um, Percy, there's something I should really tell you.

Percy (to Vincent): Oh sure, is this going to take long, honey? I promised Wanda, I'd be back for our date soon. What is it?

Vincent (to Percy): Ah. Of course. The short, short version then. Just... promise me you won't rip my head off. Literally. I probably should have mentioned this before you had both your arms back on.

Percy (to Vincent): Oh, that good, huh?

Vincent (to Percy): Um, yes. That good. Poppy's pregnant.

Percy (to Vincent): Oh...

Vincent (to Percy): Yeah.

Percy (to Vincent): So, are you going to make an honest woman of her?

Vincent (to Percy): What? Are you implying that we're currently dishonest?

Percy (to Vincent): Well, you are a pirate & she's a spy, honey... And, you know what I mean. At least, here in Britannia, anyway... It might make things easier for all of you in the long run.

Vincent (to Percy): Good God, Percy... Do you really want to know this, or are you just trying to salt the wound?

Percy (to Vincent): A little from column A, a little from column B, honey. I'm just a little shocked...

Vincent (to Percy): Honestly? We haven't discussed it.

Percy (to Vincent): Well, it's probably something to think about, honey... And I really should go, I don't want to be late... I'm happy for you. And, it looks like Poppy's done with Tesla. So, I'll see you lovely folks later.

Vincent (to Percy): Thanks, Percy. I appreciate it. I'm... Heh. Well, I'm happy too. (to Poppy) Hey, lover. How did everything go?

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh, it was fine, honey... He ran a bunch of tests & everything looks good. He did give me a lecture on safe sex, and the very interesting subject of the possible outcome of two portal jumpers having offspring... I am exhausted & starving.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh good heavens! Getting a sex talk from the wizard is like having your grandfather trying to explain the internet. Let's get you something to eat, hun. Do you want to head back to the inn or stay on the Falcon tonight?

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh, I wouldn't mind staying on the Falcon, lover... Um... How was Percy? Did you tell him?

Vincent (to Poppy): I did. He took it much better than I expected. I still have all my limbs, after all. He actually said he was happy for us. That was after he teased me about making an honest woman out of you.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh... Why on earth would you want to do something like that, honey?

Vincent (to Poppy): Heaven forbid I do something as terrible as make you honest. ;-P

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, having a child with you is one thing, getting hitched is an entirely different kettle of fish, honey... I'm not sure I'm ready for that.

Vincent (to Poppy): I know, lover. Hee hee. Don't look so panicked. I was only joking. I'm not in a hurry. And I'm not planning on going anywhere either, so don't worry.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, that's good...

A short time later:

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh wow, honey, did you have this done while I was in with the wizard? I may never leave the Falcon.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh! Wow. I asked the manufacturing crew to switch out the bunks for us, but they really outdid themselves, didn't they?

Poppy (to Vincent): It'll certainly make staying onboard easier... Thank you, lover.

Vincent (to Poppy): It was the least I could do, hun. Heh. Although, for all this, I'll probably owe Tesla a favor.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heehee, he can bill me for it, honey, I think my time in stasis more than makes up for anything you need from him. Besides, if it wasn't for me & that stupid experiment, he wouldn't be here, so I think you're good.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Very true. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I'm not keen on the idea of being in his debt. Besides, I'm SURE he'll be dying for us to send him regular updates on Victor, so he'll want to stay on our good side. :-P

Poppy (to Vincent): Heh... How did you know that's what he asked me about, honey? :-P

Vincent (to Poppy): He's a scientist, hun.

Poppy (to Vincent): True... Woo boy, I think I need to go lay down... I think the day just caught up to me, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): I'm not surprised. Well, come give me a kiss, lover, and then head to bed. I'll get us in the air.

Poppy (to Vincent): I love you, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): I love you too, Poppy. Sleep sweet. I'll be in shortly.
