A Strange & Winding Road: Day 22

Ripper (to Vincent): Good morning, Captain! When you get a free moment, could you head over to my place? Miranda wants to speak to you.

Vincent (to Ripper): Hey. Good morning, Professor. Sure. I could be over shortly.

Ripper (to Vincent): Great, I'll make coffee.

Vincent (to Ripper): Excellent. I'll see you soon. (to Poppy) Good morning, lover. I have to pop over to the Professor's for a moment. Miranda wants to speak to me.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh, I suppose I'll have to let you, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Will you stay here in bed until I get back? It'll give me plenty of incentive not to stay too long.

Poppy (to Vincent): Of course, honey, that was my plan all along. ;-)

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. That's one of the things I love about you. You're deviousness. I'll see you soon, sweetie.

Poppy (to Vincent): I'll be waiting, lover.

A little while later:

Vincent (to Ripper): Hello? Professor? Are you home? Sorry to take so long but I ran into a bit of a delay. Sure. We'll go with that.

Ripper (to Vincent): Oh... No worries.

Miranda (to Vincent): Hello there, Potter.

Vincent (to Ripper & Miranda): Heh heh. So sorry. Was I interrupting? :-P

Ripper (to Vincent): Not at all. We were just talking.

Miranda (to Vincent): Very funny, Potter... Thank you for coming.

Vincent (to Miranda): No problem, Miranda. What can I do for you?

Miranda (to Vincent): I've decided to take you up on the offer to go to Rangoon.

Vincent (to Miranda): OK, hun. I can get in touch with Belinda in Qin, and we should be able to get you there without too much trouble.

Ripper (to Vincent & Miranda): Ummm, will there be room for one more?

Miranda (to Ripper): What are you talking about, Jacob?

Ripper (to Miranda & Vincent): I want to go with you to Rangoon. I could help.

Vincent (to Ripper): Um, Professor, not that it isn't a wonderful gesture, but Rangoon isn't exactly the most stable place right now. Don't take this the wrong way, hun, you know I think the world of you, but you're not exactly a fighter.

Ripper (to Vincent): But, I could be... Besides, I could write about it & maybe help the rebels get assistance from the empire.

Vincent (to Ripper): Firstly, the Empire KNOWS what's going on in Rangoon. They've been steadily withdrawing help and pulling it off the Official Trade Routes for months.

Miranda (to Ripper): This isn't one of your novels, me boyo.

Ripper (to Vincent): Alright, Fine... I've got some work to do. I'll leave you two to talk.

Vincent (to Ripper): Do you want to be a pirate or an outcast, Jacob? Really? You want to spend a lot of your time cold, hungry, scared and hurt?

Miranda (to Ripper): Look, I'm not babysitting you. You need to stay where you belong.

Ripper (to Vincent & Miranda): I just wanted to help... Nevermind. Forget it. I'll be in my study.

Miranda (to Vincent): Does that man have a deathwish, Potter? Or is he just dumb?

Vincent (to Miranda): Well, he's not dumb, that's for certain. I don't know what he's thinking, honestly.

Miranda (to Vincent): Well, I think he's got a case of White Knight, me boyo... The sooner we can get gone, the better me thinks.

Vincent (to Miranda): Well, you can hardly blame him for that, Miranda. A beautiful woman in trouble, wicked families, death threats, pirates, intrigue... The man's a romance novelist, after all. It's like candy!

Miranda (to Vincent): Well, it makes him act foolhardy... Let me know when you're ready to head to Rangoon… I don't really have much to pack, seeing as how I left everything behind.

Vincent (to Miranda): Well, I doubt he's the only gentleman ever to act a fool around you, hun. Let me talk to my navigator... We should be able to start out tonight or tomorrow. Out of curiosity, can you perform marriages?

Miranda (to Vincent): ... Oh yes, of course. I am still officially registered as a Captain, Vincent me lad, even if I presently don't have a ship. Planning something, are you?

Vincent (to Miranda): Hmmm? Who me? Heaven forbid I do something so common. I've got a reputation to maintain! I'll see you later, Captain. We'll be in touch.

Miranda (to Vincent): See you soon, Potter!

A short time later:

Vincent (to Poppy): Hi, lover. I'm sorry it took me so much longer than anticipated.

Poppy (to Vincent): Did everything go alright? What did O'Malley have to say?

Vincent (to Poppy): She wants to go to Rangoon for a bit. She thinks it might help her sort things out. Jacob is a bit miffed. He asked if he could go with her and we both pretty much shot him down.

Poppy (to Vincent): What!?! Why on earth would he want to go to Rangoon? It's not a vacation, it's been practically a warzone since we left.

Vincent (to Poppy): Don't I know it? Hence our objections. Miranda thinks he's got a bad case of the White Knights.

Poppy (to Vincent): Hmmm, well that would explain it... Have you contacted Belinda to let her know we're coming, honey?

Vincent (to Poppy): I've been trying. So far no luck. You know how spotty the communications can be near Qin. I'm hoping I can reach her tonight or tomorrow.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well, I hope everything is okay there.

Vincent (to Poppy): I do too, hun. I'd hate to drop Miranda off in an even worse situation. Come on, lover. Let me make it up to you for abandoning you for so long.

Poppy (to Vincent): Hmmm... I don't know... I was awfully lonely while you were gone.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Then clearly I have a lot to make up.
