A Strange & Winding Road: Day 87

Percy (to Vincent, Poppy, Eep, Mouse & Otto): Well hello, sweeties! You look like a happy bunch... I bring news.

Poppy (to Percy): It's about time, honey. What did you learn?

Vincent (to Percy): Please tell me it's good news, hun.

Percy (to Poppy & Vincent): I wish it was better news. It took a little digging, but Hiiri did indeed go to New Jersey... to see Edison.

Vincent (to Percy): Son of a bitch!

Poppy (to Percy): That figures, honey. It looks like Hiiri knew just the right folks to talk to about her plans. This is so not good.

Eep (to Vincent, Poppy & Percy): What? What does that mean? Who the fuck is Edison?

Percy (to Eep): Honey, did you not ever take American history in school?

Eep (to Percy): What like... you can't mean Thomas Edison? That's... That's NUTS! (to Vincent, Poppy & Mouse) Isn't it?

Vincent (to Percy): Don't be a snark, hun. Eep doesn't know anything about the politics of this world.

Percy (to Vincent): What? He had no problem meeting Tesla, but when I mention Edison, he thinks I'm nuts... So weird.

Eep (to Percy, Vincent, Poppy & Mouse): But, from the way you talked... Why would THOMAS EDISON have anything to do with Hiiri? H-He's Thomas fucking Edison!

Mouse (to Eep): Eep, in this world, um, Edison is a bit different than what the history books say in ours.

Percy (to Eep): Honey, Edison is the one who killed Tesla... (to Poppy) I'm sorry I didn't tell you about all of that when you woke up.

Vincent (to Eep): Even in our world, Edison wasn't the nicest of gents, Slim.

Poppy (to Percy): That certainly explains a few things... I was wondering why he was an automaton. Though, I just thought he was in stasis, silly me.

Eep (to Poppy, Vincent, Percy, Mouse): So, he's a murderer and he helped Hiiri. So what do we do now? Talk to him?

Poppy (to Eep): I'm not really sure that's a good idea, honey. He's not the easiest person to talk to... Everything is a negotiation.

Eep (to Poppy): So, we negotiate then.

Poppy (to Eep): Fine, honey, anything you say. (to Percy) Percy, could you please make arrangements for a meeting with Edison? If we leave now, we can be there in a day.

Percy (to Poppy): I'll call you when I've got the appointment, honey... You know what to bring, right?

Poppy (to Percy): Yes, of course.

Vincent (to Eep): With what? We're not exactly high society folks of prestige and means here. Just calm down. We'll find a way...

Eep (to Vincent): Aren't you a fucking lord or duke or some shit now? Use that!

Vincent (to Eep): And isn't it amazing exactly how useful that is? I need you to calm down.

Poppy (to Eep & Vincent): Both of you calm down. It's okay, sweeties. I know just the thing that Edison wants.

Vincent (to Mouse): Can you take Mr. Man on a walk to cool off?

Mouse (to Vincent): Yes, of course, little brother. (to Eep) Come on, let's go for a walk around the pond.

Vincent (to Mouse): Thank you. (to Poppy) I am getting SUCH a migraine... I think I'm going to name it Eduardo.

Poppy (to Vincent): I know, honey... Can we drug him & stick him in a stasis chamber until we find Marlena?

Vincent (to Poppy): YES! Wait... No. Ask me again later. So, we're negotiating with Edison now? This just gets better and better.

Poppy (to Vincent): I've got a few things up my sleeve, honey, not to worry.

Vincent (to Poppy): Thank God for my sneaky, sexy, smart wife! We'd be lost without you, lover.

Poppy (to Vincent): We're not out of the woods just yet, honey. So, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Vincent (to Poppy): I know. We still have Drake, two Hiiris, and possibly CLANNG to deal with even if everything goes golden with Edison.  It'll work out, hun. I don't have time to believe anything else. ;-)

Poppy (to Vincent): And, that's what I love about you, honey, your eternal optimism. I'll go get us supplies for our trip.

Vincent (to Poppy): Mmmm. And here I was thinking it was my body all this time. ;-)

Poppy (to Vincent): Keep grabbing me like that, honey, and you'll distract me from my supply run.

Vincent (to Poppy): Sorry, lover. Clearly, I'm a terrible, untrustworthy rogue.

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, clearly... Before I go, honey. Are you doing okay? Be honest. Other people might not be able to tell that you're stressed & bothered, but I know you, my husband.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. That you do. I won't lie to you, hun, and not just because I can't. I have been better. When this is all over, I'll probably want to lie in bed with you and Victor, and not emerge for two weeks.

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, that sounds like a reasonable plan to me. And, we'll get through this, I can't guarantee what kind of shape we'll all be in by the time this is over & done with, but we'll get through it. I love you.

Vincent (to Poppy): I know we will, hun. I love you too. Shall I stop distracting you from the task on hand?

Poppy (to Vincent): I'd love to say no, but sadly duty calls. I'll be back shortly, honey. We should probably leave as soon as I get back.

Vincent (to Poppy): You're right, hun. I'll go plot out our course and prep the Falcon. Holler if you need me.

Poppy (to Vincent): Will do, sexy.

Meanwhile:

Mouse (to Eep): Eep, I know you're anxious to get Marlena back & I can appreciate that, but you really need to think this stuff through.

Eep (to Mouse): I know. I know. I'm sorry. It's just... It's just nothing. You're right. I'm sorry.

Mouse (to Eep): Please, don't do that. Don't shut me out. We're never going to get through all of this, if we don't work together. We're going to get Marlena back, okay?

Eep (to Mouse): I know. I'm not trying to shut you out, and I'm trying to be rational and calm about all of this, but... Shit. I don't do calm and rational well on good fucking days.

Mouse (to Eep): I know but I need you to be... and, Marlena needs you to be, too.

Eep (to Mouse): ... You're right. Sorry.

Mouse (to Eep): It's okay. C'mere.

A few minutes later:

Poppy (to Eep & Mouse): Sorry to interrupt, sweeties. But, I'm running for supplies & as soon as I get back, we're heading to see Edison.

Mouse (to Poppy): You're not interrupting anything, Poppy. We were just sitting here. Thanks for the heads up! (to Eep) Ummm, weird question. how would you feel if I suggested that you, Otto & I go find Marlena?

Eep (to Mouse): You mean without the goth chihuhuas? Why? Do you think we've got a better shot on our own?

Mouse (to Eep): Well, I was just sitting here thinking... Poppy & Vincent are going to have to jump through a lot of hoops to find out anything.

Eep (to Mouse): Yeah. Hiiri did a good gob of making this fucking complicated as hell, didn't she?

Mouse (to Eep): Not to mention, the fact that they want to deal with the clones & I could honestly care less about them. I just want to find Marlena and bring her home. And well, if I bleach my hair back to white, I'll look like Hiiri & I'm fairly certain I could fool anyone into thinking I'm her, I mean, I spent a lot of time with her.

Eep (to Mouse): Oh. Yeah. That might actually work. We still don't know where she is, though.

Mouse (to Eep): Sure, we do... Poppy & Vincent said it themselves, only I don't think they realized it. She's got to be with that Drake person. It's the only thing that adds up with what I know about Hiiri. She started acting crazier after she got back from a meeting with him... And, I overheard Poppy & Vincent mentioning him last night. It just seems too big of a coincidence.

Eep (to Mouse): Oh fucking.. Fucking shit! He's like...some kinda huge, big deal pirate. We had to break Vincent out of his stronghold once. He and Hiiri were using him as a bargaining chip for something. Last time we had spies with us, and we barely got out alive. Percy got his arm ripped off, Vincent got stabbed, everyone had giant fucking squid suction marks... How... How can we... OK. Calm. I'm being calm. Sorry.

Mouse (to Eep): Ok, ok. Clearly, it was a terrible idea. Nevermind. Forget I mentioned it. We'll just follow the perv twins lead.

Eep (to Mouse): No. It's not. If you think that's where Marlena is, then that's where we should go. We'll... We'll figure it out on the way. He's not in England though. If we aren't going with your brother, then we'll need a ship. If I can get some of Vincent's charts, I, um, I think I remember enough to plot a course.

Mouse (to Eep): You take care of the course, I'll get us a ship.

Eep (to Mouse): Yeah. OK. Poppy and Vincent are gonna shit a brick, you know. Anyway, lemme go see what I can get my hands on.

Mouse (to Eep): More than likely, but they've got their own kid to think of, and well, this is our problem.

Eep (to Mouse): I've got the maps. Let's get the hell out of here before we're missed.

Mouse (to Eep): Okay.

A couple hours later:

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, did you move the charts from the table?

Vincent (to Poppy): Hmmm? No. They should all be there. What's missing?

Poppy (to Vincent):

Vincent (to Poppy): That's weird. I haven't pulled those out in a dog's age. Not since... Oh. No. No, no, no, no! They wouldn't have! They can't be that stupid!

Poppy (to Vincent): What is it, honey?

Vincent (to Poppy): Have you seen the Gloomies lately, hun?

Poppy (to Vincent): No, I haven't... Why do I have a feeling that I'm not going to like what you've just figured out, honey?

Vincent (to Poppy): Shit! Those fucking... Yep. That's what I damn well thought. Look. Look at this! Eep left us a note. They've gone after Drake. Apparently, Mouse thinks that's where Hiiri hid Marlena, and they've ruddy gone to check. "If we don't come back..." Oh gee! Why'd you think that? Maybe because y'all are going up against a BLOODY MURDEROUS PIRATE?!

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, while that's terrible & all. They really can't get all that far. They'd need a ship.

Vincent (to Poppy): Those... Let's go pick them up before they get themselves into too much trouble.

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, we need to go meet with Edison. Percy arranged the meeting, if we don't do it now, we may never get another chance.

Vincent (to Poppy): That corpulent cocksucker can go hang! It's the Gloomies! They'll end up dead in ditch before they're out of New London!

Poppy (to Vincent): They're going to be sitting on the dock. We need to stop Hiiri. Which do you think is really more important?

Vincent (to Poppy): Are you seriously asking me which I find more important? Hiiri or my family? You should already know the answer to that.

Poppy (to Vincent): If we don't stop Hiiri, she's going to do far more damage then we can probably imagine. Your sister & Eep will be fine... How are they going to get to Drake? Where are they going to get a ship? Think this through. I know that's difficult for you but, you've got to look at the big picture.

Vincent (to Poppy): Yeah. It is. You know why? Because I don't give a shit about the big picture! Why is it always our responsibility anyway!?! It is my sister, Poppy!

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, your adult sister who has lived in Brittania for five years as a companion to the crazed fiend we need to stop. Stop acting like a spoiled, selfish child! We're going to stop Hiiri because it's the right thing to do... Do you want another Reliant on your hands? Do you really want to add another slaughter to the pile of guilt that you're carrying? Because, I know I certainly don't! I'd never be able to live with myself.

Vincent (to Poppy): Yeah. Because that's been REAL fucking easy for me to deal with. Is that what you think? I'm so goddamn sorry that I care what happens to my family! It's not as if I watched Mouse die, screaming in pain a few days ago! No. Not in the slightest. I didn't have to hold her hand while her bloody biology failed on her. Can't imagine why that might make an impression on me. Nope. Not me. I just grin and forget it! That's EXACTLY what I do.

Poppy (to Vincent): I can't deal with you when you're being like this. You go rescue YOUR precious family. I'll go deal with Edison and Hiiri. Clearly that's more important to you.

Vincent (to Poppy): FINE. I would expect you'd be more concerned as well, but maybe that's too much to fucking ask.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh right... I'm the one being unreasonable, because I want to stop the psycho robot that put all of this insanity in motion instead of saving 2 people who are probably sitting on the dock waiting for a ship to take them to Paris. Gee, I'm terrible.

Vincent (to Poppy): No, you're being infuriatingly, fucking rational! What if they aren't sitting on a dock?

Poppy (to Vincent): Then they're on their way to Paris on a ship. Do you really think Eep remembers exactly where Drake was? And, if he does, do you really think Drake is still there? There's just too many possibilities & in my mind, dealing with Hiiri is more important. I'm sorry. You can be furious at me, if you'd like. But deep down you know I'm right.

Vincent (to Poppy): No, I fucking don't!

Poppy (to Vincent): You are a bloody stupid, stubborn ass! ... Hopefully, I'll see you when I get back. If not, FINE WITH ME! (to Percy) Where the bloody hell are you, you stupid robot!?! Don't you dare hide from me right now!

Vincent (to Poppy): ...Shit. No. No, you're right. I'm just... If something happens to either of them, I'll never forgive myself. Jesus Christ… Poppy?

Percy (to Poppy): I'm really not hiding, honey. I was staying undercover, I heard shouting, I assumed gunfire wasn't far behind.

Poppy (to Percy): You know, you & my husband should take your act on the road... He's not funny either. We need to take the Clementine... It'll just be the two of us. So, I packed light.

Percy (to Poppy): Do you really think that's such a good idea, honey? I mean, I know you can handle yourself, but Vincent has a tendency to get himself into tight spots if we're not there to look after him.

Poppy (to Percy): Fine... You go with him. You have my blessings. But, I'm taking your ship.

Percy (to Poppy): Oh… (to Vincent) Damn it, Vincent! What the hell is going on? Poppy just stormed on board my ship & took off.

Vincent (to Percy): Son of a bitch! She is as stubborn as I fucking am! (to Poppy) Poppy? Poppy, don't act like you can't bloody hear me!

Poppy (to Vincent): I can hear you. But, what could you possibly have to say to me that you haven't said already, Captain Potter? You made your position perfectly clear. You want to save your sister & Eep.

Vincent (to Poppy): You're right! Alright? I damn well agreed with everything you ruddy said! You're fucking right, and I'm furious at myself. Because, if something happens to them it will be my goddamn fault.

Poppy (to Vincent): Well then, go find them. I told you I'd deal with Edison. I don't really have anything left to say to you, right now.

Vincent (to Poppy): Give me a goddamn break, hun! Do you have any idea how fucking difficult this is for me?

Poppy (to Vincent): And once again, it's all about you... I hate to break it to you, pirate boy, but you are not the center of the universe.

Percy (to Vincent): Honey, I can bring the ship back, if you'd like... I have a remote control for it in my systems.

Vincent (to Percy): Why? So she can fucking shoot me?

Percy (to Vincent): Hmmm... It might calm her down faster than you trying to reason with her, honey.

Vincent (to Percy): Fine. Bring her back. Let her shoot me! Apparently, I'm not the center of the damned universe so what does it matter?

Percy (to Vincent): Overly dramatic much, honey? I have half a mind to bring her back & shoot you both.

Poppy (to Vincent): What is going on!?! Why aren't the controls responding!?! (to Percy) PERCY! This is you, isn't it?

Percy (to Poppy): Yes, it is, honey. I'm sorry, but I can't let you go flying off half-cocked... I'll see if I can reschedule the meeting with Edison... I'm sure I can persuade his secretary. I'm very charming.

Poppy (to Percy): Ooooooo.

Percy (to Vincent & Poppy): Now, will you two calm down & be reasonable or am I going to have to lock you in a tiny room together?

Poppy (to Percy): Fine... But, I have nothing to say to him.

Vincent (to Percy): Why? Are you trying to get me killed?

Percy (to Vincent & Poppy): No, I'm trying to stop this ludicrous fight from continuing. Poppy, give me your gun... and the other one. I swear... If I have to put up with you both behaving like petulant children, I will shoot you both. No one is going anywhere until you fix this, so get comfy. I'm going to go check on your son & see what I can do to find Eep & Mouse, as well as, smooth things over with Edison... You can thank me later.

Vincent (to Percy): ...Damnit. Why do you have to go and be so bloody helpful? I had a good thunderhead worked up!

Poppy (to Percy): That's doubtful, but good luck with all of that.

Vincent (to Poppy): There's no need to be so damned sour. He's only trying to help.

Poppy (to Vincent): Why does it not surprise me that you're sticking up for him? Typical.

Vincent (to Poppy): How on earth is that typical?

Poppy (to Vincent): Because it's always Poppy, you're brilliant & how could I do this without you when I agree with you, but the moment I argue it's oh, how can you be so mean & unreasonable?

Vincent (to Poppy): Are... Are you accusing me of paying you *lip service?* Did I once, ONCE, say you were mean or unreasonable? You were the one who turned the argument nasty! That cute little comment about the Reliant was supposed to give me warm fuzzies, was it?

Poppy (to Vincent): Are we really going to argue semantics? I said that comment about the Reliant, so you'd remember what is at stake... Drake is a murdering jackass, but he does it only when there's profit in it. Hiiri will do it simply for the fun.

Vincent (to Poppy): I bloody well know what's at stake! I... God. I am trying not to argue with you, hun. I really am. I already told you... You're right.

Poppy (to Vincent): Then why did you let me leave? You didn't even try to stop me... That was more upsetting than you arguing with me.

Vincent (to Poppy): Honestly? I thought if I touched you, you'd shoot me. And don't tell me you weren't thinking about it. I've seen that look in your eyes before.

Poppy (to Vincent): Of course, I was thinking about it. But, I've never actually shot you, have I? I mean, besides that one time... and that was a complete accident. I mean, who puts the safety on the actual trigger, that's just a poor design.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh, it was not! I have never, ever seen you fumble with a gun, piss poor design or no. I'm not saying I didn't deserve it...

Poppy (to Vincent): It really was an accident... You know what? You don't have to believe me. It doesn't matter. Believe what you want.

Vincent (to Poppy): Bloody hell, woman! I was kidding! I was trying to make a joke so that we would stop fucking arguing!

Poppy (to Vincent): Well then, stop yelling at me, you big bully.

Vincent (to Poppy): I don't want to yell at you! I already feel like a cad for the amount of yelling I've done! I love you, you gorgeous, bloody minded... Wait. Why am I still shouting?

Poppy (to Vincent): I have no idea, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): Heh. Hee hee hee. I think... heh. I think I may be a tad high strung. Just a tad.

Poppy (to Vincent): I would say so, honey. I think we can chalk up this whole mess of a day to a case of all of us being high strung. I'm sorry for the hurtful things I said, lover. But, I still believe that going after Hiiri is the right thing to do.

Vincent (to Poppy): I know. And I do think you're right. It's just... It's just hard not to feel responsible for this whole mess. I'm sorry I shouted. And I'm sorry I let you leave. I can be a stubborn ass of a little man.

Poppy (to Vincent): Heh... I don't know about you, honey, but I am suddenly exhausted. How about we call a truce & we figure out our next step in the morning? Maybe, we can figure out something that will make us both happy.

Vincent (to Poppy): God, yes. I agree to all terms of surrender unequivocally. If I had a white flag, I'd flap it.

Poppy (to Vincent): I think we can now say that we managed to survive our 1st fight virtually unscathed, lover. I don't want to do that, again. Ever. I love you.

Vincent (to Poppy): I love you too, hun. You know... First fight as a married couple. It's only right we should make up properly as well.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh well, of course, we want to be all good & proper about it, lover.
