When Strange Worlds Collide, Day 31

At Casino de la Renard; Nice, French Republic:

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): Wakey, wakey. Eggs and baccy... I brought you breakfast in bed. The twins have been taken care of & are back to sleep.

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): Hari? Good morning. ...I don't believe you've ever been awake before me.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): Heh. Miracles do happen. Besides, I know you were up with the twins pretty late. I felt bad for leaving you to deal on your own. Coffee? Don't worry, I didn't cook.

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): I would appreciate some coffee. Thank you.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): So, are you going to tell me what all happened after I left, last night? Or are you trying to figure out how not to involve me?

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): ...Yes. I would prefer not to involve you if I can help it. I'm trying not to involve myself. The Cormorant, the chairman of the Board of Directors for the Bleak House, has named me as his successor in his will. I can refuse, but the next in line is... He is one of the most awful individuals I've ever had the misfortune of meeting.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): Oh... Would we have to move? Don't look at me like that. I'm completely serious. If the option is let some horrible person be in control of an assassin guild or have you do it, I'd choose you. However, I don't want to move. This is where our family is and I'd prefer to be here. I'm just being practical. You'd be able to steer them in a better direction, wouldn't you? You're very persuasive when you want to be. Heck, maybe you could stay in charge until you found a better option.

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): ...Yes. That is a possibility. They will not make it easy for me to leave. Of course, they may not like my refusal kindly either... I had hoped never to be involved with my former employers ever again. Especially not now.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): I know, handsome. It blows any way you slice it, but we can figure this out. Why not talk to Dyayda? He might have an idea.

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): ...Yes. That isn't a bad idea. I will need to inform of Mr. Rodchenko of this latest turn of events as is. You are an amazing woman, Hari.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): Heh. Why because I'm not begging you to run away with me? I thought you knew that about me already. I don't like to run away from a fight or a challenge. ;-P

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): Yes. I may have noticed you could be antagonistic. But that wasn't what I was referring to. ...Comment puis-je vous l'expliquer? I am unaccustomed to having someone... You are... I am glad you are here... With me.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): I am too, you big silly.

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): ...Heh. I am glad for it.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): … You know we should really come up with names for the babies. Are there any family names you like?

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): My father's name was Ji-Sang, my brother and I were both named for him, and my mother's name was Soo Min. However, I'm not sure we should use Korean names... I am "Mr. Yong," after all.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): Heehee. That is true. How do you feel about Dmitri for the boy? It was one of my great grandfather's names. I always liked it. Great Grandpapa was an acrobat in the circus. I heard such stories about him.

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): It's a good name... Do you like the name Isabelle? She was the nun that admitted Gee & I to the orphanage when our parents died. We were not... We were unpopular when we first arrived, and she was very kind to us. She also helped me look after Gee and find schools for him after I left. I was always most grateful for her help.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): It sounds perfect to me. Dmitri and Isabelle Park. I think it suits them. I can't believe we hadn't thought of names before. I suppose I thought we had a wee bit more time before they arrived. Heh. I hope their early arrival isn't a sign of things to come with them. :-P

Ji Yong (to Ariadne): I thought we did as well... I would not be surprised if they will always be on their own timetable.

Ariadne (to Ji Yong): Heehee. We're doomed.
