Strange Ways Here We Come: Day 68

Vincent (to Mouse): Hey, hun. I meant to tell you. We've put together something that we think will work for Hiiri.

Mouse (to Vincent): Oh, great! How's your houseguest, little brother?

Vincent (to Mouse): Alright, I suppose. I haven't been able to figure him out.

Mouse (to Vincent): Really? What's there to figure out?

Vincent (to Mouse): I don't know. There's something really familiar about him that I can't place my finger on.

Mouse (to Vincent): Oh god, I know what it is, but I have promised not to say anything. But believe me, he's good people...

Vincent (to Mouse): What? How do YOU know he's good people? What aren't you telling me, sister dearest?

Mouse (to Vincent): I figured it out last night... Well, actually Eep figured it out first, but I promised Victor I wouldn't say.

Vincent (to Mouse): Eep knows too? Oh, well that's not annoying at all. Honestly, I'm just trying to get him to go home.

Mouse (to Vincent): Well, he should probably go home but I think he wants to make sure you guys are okay first.

Vincent (to Mouse): He's not going to go anywhere if Poppy keeps making him cookies.

Mouse (to Vincent): Heehee, she's been making him cookies? That's sweet... Maybe, she's nesting.

Vincent (to Mouse): Ha ha. You are just hi-LARIOUS, you know that?

Mouse (to Vincent): You could always try bugging Eep... I need to close out the night.

Eep (to Vincent): Who the fuck shit in your cereal tonight?

Vincent (to Eep): No one. Mouse is being a pain in my patoot.

Eep (to Vincent): Oh yeah? About what? Your Bizarro Land counterpart?

Vincent (to Eep): My what?

Eep (to Vincent): Victor. What? He's more than a little bit like you, ya' know. I watched him last night. He even kinda flirts likes you.

Vincent (to Eep): What? He does not!

Eep (to Vincent): Uhhh, yeah he does. (to Mouse) Hey. Does Victor kinda flirt like your brother?

Mouse (to Eep): Yeah, he does, from what I saw last night, at least.

Eep (to Vincent): See? Told you.

An hour or so later:

Poppy (to Victor): Having trouble sleeping, honey or were you waiting up for us? :-P

Victor (to Poppy): Heh. No. I'm just having a little trouble sleeping.

Poppy (to Victor): Would you like some chamomile tea? I was about to make myself some. My sister-in-law swears by it for relaxation.

Victor (to Poppy): That would be lovely, thank you. My mom is a big proponent of a cuppa for relaxation as well.

Poppy (to Victor): Your mom sounds like a smart lady, I uh, never knew my mom. Listen to me, you don't need me getting all weepy... I'll put the kettle on. What did you do while we were at work?

Victor (to Poppy): Well, I might be biased, but I think my mom's the smartest woman I know. I'm sorry I made you upset. Don't worry. I managed to keep myself occupied while you guys were working.

Poppy (to Victor): It's alright, honey... It's been a bit of an emotional rollercoaster of a week.

Victor (to Poppy): You guys have A LOT of science fiction movies, don't you?

Poppy (to Victor): Heehee, I can't take any of the credit for them, honey. They're ALL Vincent's, though I have to admit I do enjoy them... I didn't have anything like that back home when I was growing up.

Victor (to Poppy): Hee hee. That doesn't really surprise me much. You had kind of a rough upbringing, it seems. It appears Vincent did as well. He mentioned something to me about running away from home at 16... Oh! I've upset you again. I'm sorry. It's none of my business. I suppose I'm a bit shocked. I've met you two in my time. I would have never suspected.

Poppy (to Victor): No, I'm not upset, I'm just surprised. He actually mentioned that to you? He doesn't make a habit of telling people, well, neither do I... I think you've thrown us for a loop, honey. And, I know I shouldn't ask about where you're from, but my curiosity is overwhelming... Can you tell me something about yourself? Like, I don't know, when's your birthday? Or, what's your favorite color? Do you have a girlfriend or boyfriend? Favorite book? I know I can't or shouldn't ask you about details in the future, but I figured you might be a safe topic.

Victor (to Poppy): Oh! Ha ha ha. Well, uh, let's see, my birthday is July 14th. I'm afraid I exaggerated a little bit when I said I was 18. I'll be 18 in a few month. My favorite color is plumb. I don't have any interest in having a boyfriend... And I'm currently lady-friend free. I did have a sweetheart for a little while. Her name is Colleen, but it didn't work out.

Poppy (to Victor): Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.

Victor (to Poppy): It's OK. It was nearly a year ago. Her parents didn't really approve of me. Which is NOT nearly as romantic as Shakespeare would have you believe.

Poppy (to Victor): Really? Clearly they have no taste, honey. You seem smart, good mannered... some girl will count herself very lucky someday ... God, I need to apologize. I don't know what it is that makes me talk like I'm a thousand years old around you. Oh... yay... saved by the tea... Here you go, honey.

Victor (to Poppy): Heh. Well, thank you. I appreciate it. And the tea.

Poppy (to Victor): I'd offer to tell you stuff about me, but it seems like you know quite a bit already... This is so weird.

Victor (to Poppy): Well, what would you tell me about yourself if I didn't know you?

Poppy (to Victor): Heehee, I honestly have no idea. I'm not usually very open with people that I just met... well, except for Vincent, anyway.

Victor (to Poppy): Oh yeah? So, tell me about Vincent. How'd you guys meet? How come you were open with him right away?

Poppy (to Victor): Oh god, honey, it's a ridiculous story... I was put in stasis as part of an experiment and when I woke up, I met him, only it was really complicated... Where you come from, did you ever meet Percy Meriwether?

Victor (to Poppy): Uh, I believe so. He's an automaton, isn't he?

Poppy (to Victor): Yes... Well, he was originally made to look like me. Vincent & the PoppyBot dated while I was in the stasis chamber, it didn't end very well. He didn't know she was a robot or that I even existed until later, so you can imagine the sheer mess it was when I woke up. Anyway, Vincent was nice enough to let me stay with him while I got acclimated & we hit it off.

Victor (to Poppy): Wow. That's... That IS complicated.

Poppy (to Victor): Yeah, just a little, honey. :-)
