Strange Ways Here We Come: Day 45

Percy (to Poppy): Hey there, honey. I know I'm the last person in the world you probably want to hear from right now, but I have bad news...

Poppy (to Percy): Oh honey, you're always bad news...

Percy (to Poppy): No, honey, I'm serious... the Prince's body was discovered early this morning.

Poppy (to Percy): Oh... that's terrible... thank you for letting me know.

Percy (to Poppy): I'm sorry, honey.

Poppy (to Percy): I take it, you want me to tell Vincent, huh?

Percy (to Poppy): Yes, please.

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, um, I have some news...

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh no! Is everything alright, hun? Is everything OK with your family?

Poppy (to Vincent): Yes, yes. Honey, they're fine... um, you may want to sit down.

Vincent (to Poppy): Oh. Alright. What's wrong?

Poppy (to Vincent): I don't know how else to say this, so I'm just going to say it. Percy called me... uh, Alistair is dead, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): What? Dead? How is... What happened?

Poppy (to Vincent): I don't know, honey... He didn't give me any details, but the prince's body was discovered this morning... I can crossover & find out the details or we both can, if you want.

Vincent (to Poppy): I...I don't know, hun. I'm... I don't know what I think right now.

Poppy (to Vincent): Honey, I'm sorry... where are you going?

Vincent (to Poppy): I...I don't know, hun.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh... I'll be here if you need me.

Vincent (to Poppy): Thank you, sweetie. My head is kind of spinning right now. Alistair and I had a...complicated relationship. I'm... I'm going to go get some coffee, hun. Do you want anything?

Poppy (to Vincent): No, I'm good. Thank you, honey.

Vincent (to Poppy): OK. See you in a few, sweetie.

Twenty minutes later:

Wanda (to Vincent): Oh! Vincent! OH BABY! C'mere!

Vincent (to Wanda): Oh! Wanda! Uh, hey, hun. Why are we hugging?

Wanda (to Vincent): I just found out!

Vincent (to Wanda): Found out? How did you find out?! You...uh...wait. What did you find out?

Wanda (to Vincent): About your dad, and how you ran away from home! My poor little short stack!

Vincent (to Wanda): How did you...? Oh. Oh! That interview Mouse did. I forgot about it. It was published, huh?

Wanda (to Vincent): It was in the Indie Reader that came out today. I had no idea! I'm so sorry you had to go through all... Are you crying?

Vincent (to Wanda): I... Oh good heavens. Probably. I'm sorry, hun. I got some terrible news about an old friend today.

Wanda (to Vincent): Aww. I'm sorry. What happened? Or is this something you don't wanna talk about?

Vincent (to Wanda): No. I'm OK, sweetie. Thank you. And thank you for the hugs. I'm going to get some coffee take it easy today. (to Oliver) Hey Oliver. Can I have a large vanilla latte, please?

Wanda (to Vincent): OK, shortie. I love the hell out of you. Take care of yourself, and call me if you need me.

Oliver (to Vincent): Of course, Vincent. How are you doing today?

Vincent (to Oliver): Well, I've had better days.

Oliver (to Vincent): Oh, I'm sorry to hear that... Here's your coffee, I threw in a cookie on me. I hope your day gets better.

Vincent (to Oliver): That was nice. Thank you. Have a good day.

An hour or so later:

Vincent (to Mouse): Hey, sweetie. I tried calling, but I couldn't get through.

Mouse (to Vincent): Hi little brother, sorry about that. I had to take the house phone off the hook.

Vincent (to Mouse): Yeah, I got ambushed by Wanda at the cafe. Sounds like that interview you gave hit the paper today. Want a cookie?

Mouse (to Vincent): Oh, sure... I like cookies.

Vincent (to Mouse): I suppose I looked pretty pitiful. Oliver threw one in when I got my latte, but I'm not hungry. Here you go, sweetie.

Mouse (to Vincent): Thanks... What's wrong? You seem down. Anything I can do?

Vincent (to Mouse): I just found out Alistair is dead.

Mouse (to Vincent): Oh, little brother, I know you were angry with him, but he was your friend. C'mere.

Vincent (to Mouse): Oh God, sweetie. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to come here and cry all over you. I just wandered over without thinking.

Mouse (to Vincent): It's okay, little brother, that's what I'm here for... We can sit on the swing for a little bit, if you'd like.

Vincent (to Mouse): Yeah. How are you holding up under the scrutiny, sweetie?

Mouse (to Vincent): So far, so good. Most of it has been asking me, how they can contact you. It's a good thing you moved in with Poppy. I suggest you don't go over to your old place, at all. If you need anything there, I'd send someone else, if I were you.

Vincent (to Mouse): Oh dear....Well. So much for hoping no one would notice the story, I suppose.

Mouse (to Vincent): Well, it's mostly been other newspapers & a magazine, but no one from the church, yet. I haven't even read the article... I'm a little scared to, honestly.

Vincent (to Mouse): Mmm. Oh! Heh. Just wait until someone stumbles on those "Coyote Ugly" videos of Delia and I dancing on the bar surface. Hee hee.

Mouse (to Vincent): Well, you guys do anything that risque thankfully...

Vincent (to Mouse): Ha ha ha ha! Oh... Oh that's not funny at all. But the idea, of someone from the church watching that... Hee hee. I know. I kind of wish we had. Hee hee.

Mouse (to Vincent): So... what are you going to do about Alistair, little brother?

Vincent (to Mouse): I don't know, sweetie. There will be a funeral, of course. Something ridiculously elaborate, I'm sure.

Mouse (to Vincent): Well, don't you, at least, want to know what happened to him?

Vincent (to Mouse): I do. Poppy already asked if I wanted to crossover and investigate.

Mouse (to Vincent): I'm surprised you're still here... or is there a reason that you haven't gone?

Vincent (to Mouse): Would you believe I'm trying to stay out of trouble? Heh heh. I don't seem to have much of a proclivity for that, do I?

Mouse (to Vincent): Oh... let me know how that works out for you. :-P

Vincent (to Mouse): Hee hee. Maybe I will go snooping to see what I can find out. Do you want to come along?

Mouse (to Vincent): I think I'll sit this one out, little brother, I'm still learning the ropes over there and I don't want to slow you down. But please be careful & take someone with you.

Vincent (to Mouse): I'm *always* careful. Don't make that face. I am. I'll see if Poppy is still willing to accompany me. Thanks for sitting with me, big sister. I love you. I'll see you soon. Take care of yourself.

Mouse (to Vincent): I love you, too.

Vincent (to Mouse): Later, tater.

A short time later:

Vincent (to Poppy): Hey, sweetie. Oh my! You're been unpacking.

Poppy (to Vincent): I had to do something, honey...

Vincent (to Poppy): Does the offer to crossover with me and see if we can find out what happened to Alistair still stand?

Poppy (to Vincent): Of course, honey... I have a couple contacts that might be able to help.

Vincent (to Poppy): Perfect! I just need to grab a few things, and then I'm ready to go whenever you are, hun.

Poppy (to Vincent): Let me change, honey, and I'll be ready to go...

Vincent (to Poppy): I'm not changing. I'm not feeling up to the whole Dandy ensemble today. Though, I do wish I still had my rapier.

Poppy (to Vincent): Here you go, honey, you can use mine... I have other implements. I'm all ready to go. I have to warn you, honey, this trip may take us to some nasty places. And well, are you sure you want to go?

Vincent (to Poppy): Thank you. Ooo. There's a nice balance on this sword. And, don't worry. I'll be fine, hun. I'll follow your lead. Alistair had a habit of picking up rather, er, INTERESTING jobs.

Poppy (to Vincent): Okay, then... Well, once we crossover, we'll head to the city morgue first so, we can find out how he died. Shall we go?

Vincent (to Poppy): All set, hun.

A few hours later:

Eep (to Mouse): Hey, pretty lady. How's your day been?

Mouse (to Eep): Crazy... Don't put the phone back, please.

Eep (to Mouse): Jesus. That good, huh? Is it about that article in the paper?

Mouse (to Eep): Yeah, it was published this morning... It'll be fine.

Eep (to Mouse): Are you sure? You look kinda...freaked out.

Mouse (to Eep): Oh, that's not why I'm freaked. Vincent has crossed over to find out what happened to his friend Alistair.

Eep (to Mouse): Oh. Isn't that the same guy he had to rescue from Hiiri before? What kinda trouble did he get himself in this time?

Mouse (to Eep): The permanent kind, sweetie. He's dead.

Eep (to Mouse): Oh. Oh shit. That, uh...Wow. That sucks. Do you think everything is OK?

Mouse (to Eep): I don't know. I have a bit of a bad feeling about it.

Eep (to Mouse): Hey. Don't worry. I'm sure it'll be OK.

Mouse (to Eep): Yeah, you're probably right. I think I'm going to go & test the new bathtub.

Eep (to Mouse): Oh. Uh... Right.

Mouse (to Eep): Wanna come & distract me?

Eep (to Mouse): Heh. I was that obvious, huh?

Mouse (to Eep): I think the fact that you started taking off your shoes kinda gave you away. :-p

Eep (to Mouse): Heh. Yeah. Well. I was never real good at being subtle. Need any help with your shoes, or...uh, anything else?

Mouse (to Eep): You can help me with anything you like... ;-)

Eep (to Mouse): Oh. Heh. Well. If that's the case, then... Oh, for fuck's sake. Who the hell is knocking now?

Mouse (to Eep): If it's my brother, you have my permission to tell him to fuck off.

Eep (to Mouse): If that's all I say to him, he'll be getting off easy. Don't worry about that… … … It's for you. Please hurry. She's leaking on me.

Mouse (to Eep): Oh okay...  (to Wanda) Hey, What's going on?

Wanda (to Mouse): Oh! Mouse! I read that interview you did. It was so SAD! Can I...? Can I give you a hug?

Mouse (to Wanda): Oh, uh, sure... (to Eep) ... I'm going to kill you. (to Wanda) Sweetie, I don't mean to be rude, but Eep & I were kinda in the middle of something...

Eep (to Mouse): Sorry. Sorry! I couldn't get her offa me. She kept blah, blah, blah, blah, and I panicked.

Mouse (to Eep): Well, you'll just have to do something to make it up to me. :-)

Eep (to Mouse): Oh. Well. Heh. I'll have to see what I can do to... Oh you're fucking kidding me!

Mouse (to Eep): Oh geez, I'm gonna grab drinks for both of us.

Eep (to Vincent & Poppy): Vincent. Poppy. What the fuck is wrong with... What the fuck happened to you two?

Vincent (to Eep): Nothing. Well, something. But we're OK. It was an, uh, eventful trip. My phone got smashed, so I couldn't call. We'll see you later, Slim.

Poppy (to Eep): Honey, can I use your bathroom? I need to tidy up before we get home. I don't want the doorman to ask too many questions.

Eep (to Vincent): Fat Christ! Eventful? Yeah. I'd say so. Uh... Do you need anything? I have a first aid kit... (to Poppy) Oh uh... Yeah. Go ahead.

Poppy (to Eep): Thank you, honey...

Eep (to Vincent): Do you need to clean up too?

Mouse (to Vincent): Oh my god! Are you guys okay? How much time has passed for you?

Vincent (to Eep): Probably. I didn't think of that. I guess so. Heh. I'm not used to having someone pay attention to my comings and goings. (to Mouse) We're OK. It's been a couple of weeks.

Poppy (to Mouse & Eep): Thank you again for the use of your bathroom. I really like the paint you guys went with, it looks nice.

Mouse (to Poppy & Vincent): Thanks. Okay, I'm sure you're both tired & want to get home.

Vincent (to Mouse): I know I am. The doorman will just have to cope with me looking like a damn ruffian.

Mouse (to Poppy & Vincent): Alright, give me a hug, you two.

Vincent (to Mouse & Eep): See you later, sweeties. Sorry to crash your evening. I'll talk to you tomorrow.

A little while later:

Poppy (to Vincent): Wow, honey, we must have looked worse than I thought, if your sister wanted to hug me.

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee. I suppose so. You don't think the door man will give me a hard time do you, hun? I got the distinct impression we were interrupting private times, so I left before I could clean up.

Poppy (to Vincent): You just look a bit scruffy & disheveled. If he asks, imply we were having sex in the park, I'll play the embarrassed, upset girl card, that should work & then he won't want to ever ask again. :-p

Vincent (to Poppy): Hee hee! Sounds like a plan, hun.

Ten minutes later:

Vincent (to Poppy): I think the lecherous look I just gave him did all the work for us. Heh. I really shouldn't antagonize the door man should I? Let's get to bed. I'm ready to drop.

Poppy (to Vincent): Me too, honey... This is weird to be home. I uh, guess I'll go to my room. This is going to take some getting used to after sharing sleeping space with you for so long.

Vincent (to Poppy): You won't know what to do with all that space to yourself? Hee hee. Good night. I think I'm going to stay up for a little bit. Now that we're home...I get the feeling that I'm going to end up staying awake processing a lot of what we learned tonight.

Poppy (to Vincent): Oh... I understand. Good night, honey… You know, if you find yourself feeling lonely in the night, you are more than welcome to crawl in with me.

Vincent (to Poppy): Thanks, hun. I'll, uh, I will keep that in mind. Good night.
